Decibels – they get everywhere but what are they?
Every time we look in a catalog or read about anything technical, we come across decibels. The decibel is one of those things that other people know about and sound most impressive when they talk about them. But nobody actually tells us what they are.
The two ways of doing decibels
We can skip straight to the answer and not worry about all the details. This is tempting providing that one of our readymade answers fits our problem. The other way is to devote an hour and be able to understand them forever so we can solve all problems for ourselves.
