8.1 Introduction

Holographic displays are in widespread use and often aspire, sometimes successfully, to become an art form. Small display holograms are used to provide additional authentication for a wide variety of articles including credit and debit cards, banknotes, passports, licences, and concert and theatre tickets as well as consumer goods. Large-format holographic displays are also widely used in advertising.
