Creating Scalable Vector Graphics Files

THROUGHOUT THIS BOOK, YOU have extensive use of bitmap-graphics files, normally stored in the .JPG file format. In this chapter, you will examine scalable vector graphics (SVG) files. These graphics are powerful and flexible in that they don’t lose quality if they are resized. As it turns out, an SVG file consists of XML entries, which define the graphic. Across the Web, many sites offer SVG graphics that you can purchase and download and then use on your site. In addition, most vector-based drawing programs let you save the graphics you create as an SVG file.
