In early 1990s, major competitors such as HP, Amstrad, and Casio entered the market with com-
peting products in different geographic markets like Asia where Psion did not have a major pres-
ence. Sharp Zaurus became dominant in Japanese market, and HP’s LX series entered with a price
point that was thrice that of the entry level of Psion Series 3. However, none of these had any major
impact on Psion’s overall market leadership, and in 1996, Psion was still on top with a 30% market
share with an estimated sales volume of 1.6 million units.
