Detection and Prevention of Internet Crimes

This chapter introduces the reader to the various methods to aid in Internet crime detection and prevention. Specifically covered are means by which the investigator can identify that Internet crime is occurring within their communities. It is again stressed that Internet crime is no different than traditional crimes and that allowing it to continue unabated adds to the online criminal’s erroneous belief that they can’t be caught. Also discussed are the methods investigators can employ to prevent Internet-related crime. These methods can include public education and interaction at various levels.
