The focus of this book is providing the average network engineer guidance for executing a digital forensic investigation. Our definition of average means somebody with a basic background in technology, computers, and networking. This also includes the tools being used, which means that average tools can be defined as a modern computer purchased with standard capabilities. We touch on situations that call out professional-level skills and technology, but the majority of our focus is suitable for most readers regardless of skill level.
