Chapter 2–It’s Not Just About the Future

Earlier we discussed some of the issues with public acceptance, security and the IoT as a technology. However, in this chapter, we will discuss how to secure IoT devices, or rather how to secure IoT networks.

What we will hope to put across is that there are many reasons that a security practitioner should not just focus on the device. The device is a single item in an ecosystem; therefore, every area should be covered, for example:

  1. Learning from the past
  2. Security by design
  3. Read the Terms of Conditions
  4. smartphone architecture
  5. Looking back to past technologies to build networks
  6. A confluence of new technologies such as radio and RFid
  7. Basic IoT security practices

Security practitioners must take ...
