Transporting an iPad and Camera
When it’s time to hit the road, or at least the local coffee shop, what are you going to use to carry your stuff?
I must confess that I love solving these kinds of problems. I take great pride in packing light, yet having everything I need at my side. As a result, I have some good suggestions for you. Keep in mind that there are hundreds of different bags and carrying solutions available. I’ll share a few of my favorites to get the wheels turning. Then I’ll let your creativity take it from there.
Basic Items for Transport
All you really need for most adventures is your camera and an iPad, as shown in Figure 9-1. As long as they have a way to talk to one another, you’re set. In my typical “bang around” kit, I like to add a few accessories, too:
- The iPad Camera Connection Kit’s SD card reader and the Lightning SD Card Reader.
- A stylus (pen).
- An extra battery and an extra memory card for the camera.
- A USB-to-Dock cable, a USB-to-Lightning cable, and a travel charger.
- A lens cloth.

That’s not a lot of stuff — and I carry both Dock and Lightning adapters and cables because I have both a third-gen iPad and an iPad Mini, which have different connectors —but it’s more than enough to get most ...
