Here’s an overview of the twiddly bits—buttons and switches—on your iPhone and iPad.

Side/Top Button

Your device has a button that primarily wakes up or locks the screen. It’s on the side on iPhones; on iPads, it’s on the top when you hold it in portrait orientation or on the side when held in landscape orientation. Some iPad models include a Touch ID sensor in the side/top button, too.
