Part V

Adding the Application Content

After the realization dawns that you have to sell a lot of 99-cent applications to afford the gas to drive a ’59 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz to the grocery store, much less across the country on a road trip, you can start thinking about having your application actually do something. In this section, you add the code to create an industrial-strength application that you can charge real money for — something so good that people will actually pay the big bucks for it. In this part, I explain how to do things like display the weather, page through local events like you are reading a book, and even get those events from a server on the Internet. You also display the destination and where you are right now on a map, and (in the Bonus Chapter at www.dummies.com/go/iphoneappdevfd4e) find a location you’ve always wanted to visit (such as Radio City Music Hall) and display it on a map as well.

You finish off your app by allowing the user to choose from a list of destinations for his or her road trip.
