In this chapter, we take a much more detailed look at performance as it relates to memory management within iOS applications.

Of course, when we use the term memory throughout this chapter, we are referring to volatile memory, that is, memory that requires a power source in order to retain data. More commonly referred to as RAM (Random Access Memory) or SRAM (Static Random Access Memory) throughout the computing industry, this volatile memory is the workhorse of any computing device, in which nearly every operation's result will be stored at some point in time, even if only for a short time.
