Syncing contacts and calendars
Syncing everything else
After you master essential iPhone moves (in Chapter 2), you’ll likely want to get some or all of the following onto your iPhone: contacts, appointments, events, bookmarks, music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, and photos.
You can get items onto your iPhone either by syncing with your Mac or PC using Finder or iTunes, or by syncing across the internet using iCloud. Syncing your data either way keeps it up to date everywhere, so a change you make on your iPhone is available on your iPad and your Mac or PC, not to mention on your Apple Watch.
To sync with a Mac running a recent version of macOS (macOS 14, Sonoma; macOS 13, Ventura; macOS 12, Monterey; macOS 11, Big Sur; or macOS 10.15, Catalina), you use Finder; to sync with a Mac running macOS 10.14 (Mojave) or earlier or to sync with a PC, you use iTunes. If you’re using iTunes, update to the latest version available by choosing iTunes ⇒ Check for Updates. Whether you’re using Finder or iTunes, update iOS to the latest version too by choosing Settings ⇒ General ⇒ Software Update.
