CHAPTER 5 Data Plane Technologies for IPv6 Network Slicing

DOI: 10.1201/9781032699868-7

In IPv6 network slicing, the data plane requires service packets to carry network slice identifiers, instructing devices to process and forward the service packets of different network slices according to the topology, resource, and other constraints defined for these slices. Currently, such identifiers can be carried using IPv6 extension headers or Segment Routing over IPv6 (SRv6) Segment Identifiers (SIDs). This chapter provides an overview of IPv6 and SRv6 technologies and describes how to use IPv6 extension headers and SRv6 SIDs to carry network slice identifiers.
