The recording artist/producer relationship is often akin to a marriage: A married couple might fight like hell, but they should be in love! A producer is the objective voice, the one who says to the singer, “Put a little twist on this phrase,” or to the guitarist, “Something is not working well. Let’s approach this line in another way.” Since the producer is accountable to both the artist and to the record label, diplomacy is often a virtue.
