In the Introduction chapter, one definition given for a change programme was to deliver an improved strategic capability through a set of interdependent projects. In the Glossary, a programme is more generally defined as ‘a collection of projects that is directed toward a common goal’.

The key point about both these definitions is that they recognise the need for a holistic approach to achieve an improved capability or goal and also that this will be achieved through multiple projects. This is an important perspective which was highlighted in an earlier section of this chapter on the holistic approach to business improvement.
