IT-enabled change requires both ‘hard’ and ‘soft’ elements of organisation design. The former includes the design of the organisation structure and a well-defined performance measurement system which is capable of analysing the work outcomes in quantified terms. The latter includes shaping an appropriate culture for the organisation and ensuring that the employees are skilled and motivated to perform the work. One element that links these two areas is designing the appropriate organisational incentives and key performance measures that will encourage the needed behaviours for effective change.
