Deployment represents the transition from being a change project to providing an operational service. It is sometimes regarded as the ‘moment of truth’? This type of phrase suggests a one-off evaluation of success. It is true to say that there may be some specific measures such as the system technically working or a key reconciliation test being met. In practice, though, successful deployment requires a number of elements to be managed individually and together over a period of time. The technology not only needs to work, it must also have the right performance, reliability, scalability and security. Some of these features may be observable quickly; others may not be apparent for some time.
