The extent to which maintenance matters can vary significantly within the SME sector: some need nothing at all; others need a full-blown, all-inclusive, outsourced maintenance service.


The author has absolutely no maintenance support in place (other than any warranty that comes with new equipment). This has never been a problem in nearly 20 years as the author is IT literate and all of the equipment is sufficiently cheap to be treated as essentially disposable. There are sufficient PCs available to ensure that should one fail there is always one available to carry on any urgent work, you can always buy a new PC within hours ...
