UML provides use cases and information flows for the description of processes. Use cases show how specific participants work together with individual IT systems in order to complete functional tasks. Information flows are used to communicate an understanding of the overall context of a system landscape. They are based on the paradigm that data flow from one system to another and are processed or continually enriched in the process. Even if this concept does not quite fit with an object-based understanding, it is still well-suited to making the distinction between systems visible. We will first give an overview and then describe ca. 40 systems according to a uniform schema Fig. A-2tion A.2).
