2 IT System Landscape of a Transport Company

In this chapter, we will introduce the most important processes and IT systems that transport companies use in order to organise their operations – or to be more precise, to plan, control, optimise and calculate their vehicle fleet.

Section 2.1 describes typical business processes and systems, how they interact and their spatial-organisational distribution. Commercial applications (so-called ERP systems) are not covered here. Only the interfaces for some of these systems (for personnel and financial concerns) are looked at in the context of personnel dispatch and the calculation of fare revenue.
