8 Transport Control
This chapter deals with monitoring and influencing the transportation process – in other words, passenger trips, but equally the deployment of drivers and vehicles. To make this integrated approach clear, we will use the term transport control. This involves continual monitoring and making controlling interventions.
Other terms
Another common term – which brings the vehicles to the forefront – is fleet control. We feel that the term fleet management is less suitable, because it is temporally not so focused on what is happening in the present moment. Some other terms, e. g. vehicle tracking, are too restrictive, because they are only focused on a single aspect: determining the vehicle’s location.
