5. HARMONY
Harmony is the other thing - aside from melody - we can do with pitches: have more than one at a time. Harmony is in fact the presence of two or more pitches at the same time. It’s pitches stacked up. A thorough study of harmony takes a while; what’s presented here is for your gradual absorption and comprehension. Please do not expect to grasp all of this fascinating, fun and rather dense subject in a few days! The first goal is to get a general knowledge of chords, those little blocks of pitches that support a melody, since that’s what you’ll need most as a songwriter, player, performer, composer, producer or audio engineer.
