action Something specific that is being done to create a desirable outcome. Actions are the things that activists organize and participate in; they are the active, potent, realized form of activism. A protest is an action, so is a phone-in campaign to your local legislator, or a boycott, or a strike.
action alert Also known as a call to action, an action alert is an email or other notification sent to activists and potential activists informing them of an action and asking them to participate. Online action alerts generally focus on contacting elected officials and other decisionmakers about a given problem, promoting a boycott, or signing a petition.
