HyperText Markup Language (HTML) is the language used to develop web pages. HTML is not a procedural programming language and as such has been sorely stretched to perform the work necessary to create complete applications on the Web. HTML is a presentation language derived from Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML) and is comprised of tags that define how the text they surround will be rendered.
