This chapter discusses Internet mail (email) protocols, including the Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP), and the Post Office Protocol Version 3 (POP3) and Internet Mail Access Protocol (IMAP) mail retrieval protocols. JavaMail is the Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) implementation of a mail service. This chapter includes:
