The Java EE 6 specification includes the JAX-WS API as one of its technologies. JAX-WS is the standard way to develop SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) web services in the Java platform. It stands for Java API for XML Web Services. JAX-WS is a high-level API; invoking web services via JAX-WS is done via remote procedure calls. JAX-WS is a very natural API for Java developers.
Web services are application programming interfaces that can be invoked remotely. Web services can be invoked from clients written in any language.
