The Apache Tomcat application server supports local JMX capabilities, which allow connections anonymously to a local process with a jvmstat connection to interact with the exposed application objects.
There are several terminal applications freely available for JMX management. The Java Development Kit (JDK) is distributed with a terminal called
%JAVA_HOME%\bin\jconsole.exe). The release of
JDK 1.6_07 also includes
%JAVA_HOME%\bin\jvisualvm.exe) which is a newer and more robust terminal application based on the Java.NET project called VisualVM which can be found at http://visualvm.java.net/.
