A bean doesn't need to be a graphical user interface control to be a bean. In fact, a bean doesn't need to be visible at all to the application user. Only the application builder needs to see some kind of representation of the bean during design time. Popular beans that are invisible during runtime include timer beans and beans that provide database access. In this chapter, you use Java's time-related classes and methods to write an invisible timer bean.
