JDBC Supported Drivers

You can access nearly any database through the JDBC API including Microsoft Access, Informix, InterBase, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, Paradox, Sybase, and xBase. JDBC provides this broad database support through four types of connectivity:

  • JDBC-ODBC Bridge— The JDBC-ODBC bridge, a driver provided in the Java Development Kit (JDK), allows existing ODBC drivers to be used through the JDBC API. However, this is not the best solution for using existing databases through the JDBC API because it requires the installation of ODBC drivers and client libraries.
