In this chapter, you learned how to use JDBC, a 100 percent Java API, to connect with and use databases from your JavaBeans components. JDBC, part of the core Java platform, enables you to interact with most existing databases using the standard database language, SQL. The Java platform includes the JDBC-ODBC Bridge that allows you to access databases with ODBC drivers through the JDBC API. You learned how to create beans that read and write database tables through the JDBC-ODBC Bridge. You also learned how to access and display result sets. The JDBC API is indispensable for programming database-aware Java beans for the Enterprise.
