The basic idea behind Enterprise JavaBeans is that a framework is created for components that may be plugged in to a server. This allows that particular server's functionality to be extended. The only similarity between standard JavaBeans and Enterprise JavaBeans is that similar concepts are used. EJB technology is governed by Enterprise JavaBeans Specification.
