The first task most users undertake after installing Joomla! is setting the site's global configuration options. To assist with this important process, Joomla! provides the Global Configuration Manager, which enables you to set many of the site's configuration options in one place. As the name implies, the Global Configuration Manager applies the options you set to your entire site. Although you adjust many of the settings contained in the Global Configuration Manager once and do not touch them again, you can override some of the settings on a case by case basis using the parameter options for individual items.
With Joomla! 3, the Global Configuration Manager has been reorganized to help consolidate the many configuration options of the various components and to provide easy access to user permissions management. Before Joomla! 3 you had to visit each of the individual component managers to configure the components, which tended to cause confusion and impair usability. Now, you can easily manage not only the configuration options that apply to the entire site, but also the options specific to particular components.
