13. Modules—Dynamics within the Presentation
Modules are a central component of Joomla! and are integrated into the page layout in the template’s index.php file. They are really nothing more than content elements that can be placed around the actual content. They usually do small dynamic tasks. If you have been using Joomla! for a while, you probably know the number and type of the different modules. Joomla! currently has 23 different module types (in version 1.6) that can be easily integrated into any template.
