Appendix A. Local and Remote Servers
It is best practice to use a local server, running on your computer, when first creating a Joomla web site. If you do not already have a local server installed on your computer, the easiest way to install a web server is to use such prepackaged software as MAMP for the Mac or XAMPP for Windows.
The benefits to working on a local web server are:
Faster to create and test the site
Reduces the risk of bringing down your live “production” site
Allows you to test third-party extensions, before deployment on a live site
This appendix describes two local server environments, and it shows you a simple method to upload your entire site to a remote (hosted) server.
