The Basemap project appears to be expansive. There are many references to it from several map-producing organizations. Once we have a map for reference, the user control/widget then navigates over that map just as we would navigate over another data source.

 Looking into the source code for the widget, we realize that the widget draws upon the interact widget as a basis. The interact widget produces events about what the user is doing, so the same events should still be triggered.
