Open Source and Glue Code

One incredibly good source for reuse is the open source community. So long as you respect the terms of the license under which the code is released, open source is free to use and can save you valuable programming hours. After all, if someone else has developed an encryption library, why not leverage that rather than develop one from scratch?

However, complete solutions are not usually available for every project that you might embark on. Often what is needed is to create code that takes what is available and rearranges it slightly. The logic that is then required to solve the actual problem can be implemented as glue code.
