Tradition has it that the Ark of the Covenant, in which Moses’ Tablets of Law were carried during his 40 years of wandering, eventually found a home in the temple that Solomon built in Jerusalem. That temple was ransacked and destroyed in 568 BCE by Babylonians. It was replaced by a second temple, larger in size but less preciously ornamented, which was sacked by the Romans in 70 BCE.)
