FOREWORD

I pause to scan the auditorium. Five hundred faces glow back at me in the soft light of as many mobile devices, dozens of those faces half covered by the cold, gray eye of a smartphone or iPad camera, pointed toward the stage.

“The world is moving at a comfortable pace,” I offer to the audience, “Raise your hand if you agree with this statement.” Of the hundreds, only two hands go up. We all collectively stare at these two individuals with envy, and we wonder if they’ve come here from the future, or maybe some remote part of the world still untouched by technology. As a speaker, I ask over 50,000 people a year this question, and the results, even with encouragement, are the same.
