How it works...

Offline migrations are quite simple; the virsh command transfers the definition file from the target host to the destination and defines the instance. The original KVM guest is left running. In order to start the migrated instance, its image file needs to be transferred to the destination first and be present on the exact same location as the one on the source server. The main difference when performing an offline migration as compared with just dumping the XML file and defining it on the destination host is that libvirt makes updates to the destination XML file, such as assigning new UUIDs.
