How it works...

To set up bridge networking, in steps 1 and 2, we first bring the physical interface (eth1 in this example) down, in order to enslave it (make it a part of the new bridge we are going to create). We then create the network configuration, specifying the new bridge and the physical interface that is going to be a part of that bridge. This in effect maps the subnet that is configured on the physical interface to the bridge. If your server has only one network interface, you can still enslave it. However, you will need an additional way of connecting to the server because once you bring your main interface down, you will loose connectivity and troubleshooting might be impossible over an SSH connection.
