The Three Versions of Your Résumé

Plan on making three versions of your résumé: one in Word, one in plain text, and an HTML version for your website. It’s nice to send PDFs of your Word documents if that’s an option for an employer, but I’ve never seen a job ad that required a résumé in PDF.

“Aw, man,” I hear some of you saying, “three formats?” Yes, you’re going to have to be able to send off a copy in Word when it’s asked for. You’re also going to want a copy in plain text to send to companies that don’t want attachments or if you’re posting into a little web form on some job site. Finally, you’ll want a copy up on your website for Google and all other search engines to find.
