Introduction

Laser technology is continuously advancing and in some settings, such as universities and research institutions, lasers become outdated or applications change such that particular lasers are no longer needed. Typically, these lasers go to storage, but space is very valuable and a time comes when these laser systems go to salvage. The question arises; can they just be thrown out in routine trash?
