I think it all comes down to motivation. If you really want to do something, you will work hard for it.

The end goal is made up of many smaller victories along the way, which are in turn created by hundreds, if not thousands, of decisions. It is important to remember that fact, otherwise small achievements can be overlooked to the detriment of the team or individual team members. Any leader who wishes to motivate should remember this; often all it takes is a simple acknowledgement – the thought doesn't weigh a thing!
