This chapter provides an introduction to External Quality Assurance (EQA), including a brief history of the development of EQA models used in higher education around the world. The concepts of ‘fitness for purpose’ versus ‘fitness of purpose’ are discussed, as is the notion of ‘standards’ as the current hot topic in quality worldwide.
