By assessing your organizational environment, you lay the groundwork for success in getting your ideas accepted and implemented. Here are some questions to consider in this assessment process:

How does your idea fit with the organization's goals? Your organization's explicit goals are recorded (and ideally, well communicated). You can find evidence of these goals in the organization's vision and mission statements, its strategic objectives, and its structure. The implicit goals of the organization are often less visible. The more closely you can align your idea with the organization's spoken and unspoken goals, the better the chance you will have of getting your idea accepted and implemented.
