The findings about the effectiveness of leadership in Australian organizations are a cause for concern. There is a continuing downward trend in managers' perceptions of their CEOs, with managers continuing to see themselves as more effective than their CEOs, and certain groups of managers, such as those made up of the younger generations, seeing a decline in the effectiveness of their leaders. The first of the annual surveys identified twenty leadership qualities (ranked in descending order of importance in the tables on page 15, “Ratings from the 2005 Survey” and “Comparing CEO Ratings, 2003–2005”).
