Because of the nature of my work, and perhaps because of my personal inclinations, I spend a lot of time wandering the streets of strange cities. I like to do it early in the morning, both because I am drawn to sunrises and because the air is usually fresh then and also because I have noticed that there are fewer hooligans out and about at that time.
My starting point is often a hotel lobby, and although I believe in maps and guidebooks, I am prone to navigate randomly, to some extent because of lazy expediency but also because I like surprises.
