The many admirers of Andrew Hill’s columns in the Financial Times will be delighted to find that a selection of these columns has been resurrected in this book. It is no longer true that today’s newspaper is tomorrow cast into the fire, given that you will still find its contents reserved somewhere in the interstices of cyberspace. In theory, therefore, you can continue to read news and comments from years back, if, that is, you know what you are looking for and where to find it. The reality is that, as we hurry through our lives, what we failed to read today we will never see again. We should be thankful, therefore, that books still exist and can often act as treasuries of the words of the past.
