THE LEADER’S VALUES

Everyone in the village said the same thing. The women, the men, the children and the elders all said that what they most wanted to see in a good leader was courage, contribution and responsibility. I half expected that their huts would have little brass plaques saying “courage, contribution, responsibility”. Or perhaps they would have one of those motivational posters of people rowing up a mountain to make the same point. And then there would be the video from the chief. But the village was dirt poor. They had no electricity or water, let alone motivational posters and brass plaques.

The unanimity of the village was impressive. But I still felt a bit cynical about this corporate-style spouting of the village values. ...
