Bennis, Warren G. and Bert Nanus. Leaders: The Strategies for Taking Charge. (New York, New York: Harper & Row Publishers, Inc., 1985).

The authors interviewed and observed 90 people to better understand leadership. The results led them to conclude that effective leaders used four strategies to lead their organizations. Included were Fortune 200 executives, university presidents, heads of government agencies, coaches, orchestra leaders, elected officials, and public interest leaders.
